SEO Link Building– An Overview

If you want to use SEO link building and make it work for your business, you need to shatter the myths and have an understanding of the whole link building exercise. It’s important to dispel all the misunderstandings in order to use these links correctly, which in turn helps your website rank better in the search engines.
Link building – Basics

One of the first things you must do is understand what a link is all about. Basically, a link is a connection between two web pages. So, if a reader comes across a particular link while reading the content of one web page, and clicks on it, he/she will be taken to another page that the current page links back to.

So, why do link building in the first place. Well, the reason – Search Engines. For search engines, a link from one web page to another is a point in favor of that particular page. What does this mean? Yes, a higher rank of that webpage in the search engine rankings.

All links are not equal

Bear in mind that a search engine knows all the tricks in the book. For any and every search engine not all links are equal.
You can’t just link with any webpage and think you have got full marks when it comes to being considered favorably by a search engine.

The existing value of the particular web page that has a link to your site will be considered in the scheme of things. If you take the easy route and your site only has low value links, don’t think Google is going to give it a high rank.

But, here is the thing – low value links are better than no links at all. So, keep working at it! Try for high value links, but if that’s not possible than a low value link wont hurt.

Only SEO Value

A link should only be considered for its SEO value. A one way link is always better than just swapping links with your friends. If you swap links, they will just cancel each other out. So, if you want your link building to work, you must ensure that you only concentrate on one way links. Anything else won’t be as effective
